THE MONTANA CENTENNIAL TRAIN ~ 1964

Montana has always captured the imagination as a place of grandeur that is "bigger than life." It lived up to its reputation in 1964 when a group of citizens came up with a unique way to celebrate the Montana's centennial as a territory (only 75 years as a state) and introduce the Treasure State to folks to the far east of the Mississippi in the city of New York. A Centennial Train of 30 cars with 150 panels painted with scenes of Montana headed east to the New York World's Fair.
It is a favorite Montana story and it is told here in slides, audio and an account by Montana's own Howard Copenhaver from his book... Music is from an album by Montie Montana, who joined the train as one of its celebrities. Howie Fly was on that train as a young wrangler, working with Howard Copenhaver.
